Shot down near Groningen by Oblt Ludwig Becker 4./NJG1.
Crashed at 2252 at Blijham - 5 km SE of Winschoten, Holland, Netherlands.

13 aircraft (took off from 1937 hours to 2112 hours)
(5 from "A" Flight, 5 from "B" Flight and 3 Freshman) were detailed to attack
target towns STETTIN, and HAMBURG.

All aircraft attacking STETTIN successfully located and attacked the target, and bombs were dropped in
target area, but no results were observed owing to the haze prevailing at the time.
Several aircraft reported seeing a huge red fire just North of the town.
One Captain counted 17 small fires. (A/C. A.X.9751 - Captain F/S. EDWARDS).
A/C. Q.X.9877 (Captain Sgt. RUNGALL) was hit by light Flak in the maine and tail planes, and
A/C. T.X.9888 (Captain Sgt. DUTTON) (electrical system failed) rear turret went U/S.
All aircraft on this target returned to base by 0640 hours.

3 aircraft attacked HAMBURG and bombs were dropped on CALAIS by A/C. E.X.9909 (Captain Sgt. BRUCE)
being unable to obtain sufficient height to reach HAMBURG, and started seven small fires.
A/C. Y.X.9910 (Captain Sgt. HULLS), and
A/C. B.X.9673 (Captain Sgt. ELLIS) Wellington Mk IC X9673 KO-B, failed to return from this operation.
The remaining aircraft returned safely to base at 0232 hours.

Since May 2020, a permanent memorial has been placed at the church in Blijham on the Oosteinde
