Shot down by Hptm Werner Streib, I./NJGI.
Crashed at 0145 near Nederweert, Limburg, Netherlands, 4 km. NE of Veert.
ORB. 15th July. (5 aircraft took off between 22.57 hours to 23.07 hours.)
Three of the above aircraft successfully located and attacked the target area.
A/C. J.W.5710 (Captain S/L. SINDALL) returned to base at 2348 owing to engine trouble.
A/C. B.R.1798 (Captain Sgt. COOK) failed to return from this operation.
A/C. E.X.9733 (Captain Sgt. PRIOR) dropped his bombs on approximate target area.
Bursts were seen and fires started, but cloud made it impossible to locate exact target.
A/C. T.R.1471 (Captain F/L. LITCHFIELD) dropped his bombs in area East of DUISBERG,
owing to violent enemy opposition whilst searching for target.
No results were seen. Damage was sustained to nose and tail plane by anti aircraft fire.
Bombing height was 10.000 feet.
(A/C. F.X.9671 (Captain P/O. POOLEY) returned to base early owing to intercommunication trouble)
04.01. All aircraft with the exception of B.R.1798 (this a/c was shot down on 7/9/1941 - there were no survivors.)
had returned safely to base after operations.
