Eight aircraft and eight from No. 38 Squadron and seventeen from Feldwell took off to attack Diepholz Aerodrome,
and the Focke-Wulf aircraft works at Bremen.
Crashed at Klein-Henstedt, a small village about 10 Km NNE of Wildeshausen, Germany.
Ditched 0200 off the island of Rottum, Netherlands.
The aircraft was found in 1980.
ORB. 7/4/40.
2130. Eight aircraft and eight from No.38 Squadron and seventeen from FELTWELL
took off to attack DIEPHOLZ Aerodrome, and the FOCKE-WULF aircraft works at BREMEN.
One aircraft attacked DIEPHOLZ aerodrome and started fires.
One aircraft attacked FOCKE-WULF works at BREMEN had the bombs hang up.
Two others on the same target failed to locate target one brought bombs back, the other obtained hits and started fires on EMDEN docks.
One aircraft attacked railway bridge over canal, caused big fire.
P/O. FRASER attacked railway near RHEINE.
He was subject to three attacks by ME.110's, astern and abeam, using free gun on parallel course.
600 rounds fired at 200 yards, incendiaries seen hit and last burst stopped him firing and he was lost from view.
Our aircraft turned into enemy aircraft.
Sgt. GREGORY experienced severe icing, dived down to 7000 feet, ice breaking away at 9000 feet.
Casualties. P/O. HUNKIN failed to return, the remainder returned safely.
