Became separated from the main formation and shot down by Me 110s.
ORB. 7/4/40.
1105. The twelve aircraft took off one at a time.
1115. The last aircraft took off. They met 9 Sqdn. and set course.
The target, a cruiser and 6 destroyers, was not discovered.
'A' Flight got left behind on the return journey and was attacked by between two and four M.E.110's.
Two of our aircrafts were shot down, captains P/O WICKENKAMP and P/O GAYFORD.(Wellington Mk IA N2949 KO-H)
It is believed one enemy aircraft was shot down.
