674 aircraft - 349 Lancasters, 221 Halifaxes, 104 Stirlings - to Nuremburg.
The marking for this raid was based mainly on H2S.
47 of the Pathfinder H2S aircraft were ordered to check their equipment by dropping a 1,000-lb bomb
on Heilbronn while flying to Nuremberg.
28 Pathfinder aircraft were able to carry out this order.
Nuremberg was found to be free of cloud but it was very dark. The initial Pathfinder markers were
accurate but a creepback quickly developed which could not be stopped because so many Pathfinder
aircraft had difficulties with their H2S sets.
The Master Bomber could do little to persuade the Main Force to move their bombing forward;
only a quarter of the crews could hear his broadcasts.
33 aircraft - 11 of each type on the raid - lost, 4.9 per cent of the force.
47 aircraft minelaying in the Frisians and off La Pallice, Lorient and St Nazaire, 10 OTU sorties.
1 Wellington minelayer lost.

10 aircraft took off between 21.35 hours and 21.45 hours to attack target NUREMBERG.
2 aircraft were forced to abandon the sortie, (W.D.S.620 - Captain Sgt. PIRIE. D.) due to failure of oxygen supply and the other
(B.D.S.691 - Captain F/S. JOLLY. W. P. - 1346616 DFM) due to D.R. compass being unserviceable
and both returned to base after jettisoning their bombs.
7 aircraft identified the target by means of green target indicator markers on which they dropped their bombs
from heights ranging between 19,500 feet and 22,000 feet.
The attack was well concentrated. Good concentrated fires with much smoke were seen.
One of these aircraft (K.D.S.658 - Captain F/S. NEWTON. N.) sustained a hole in the mid upper turret
due to heavy Flak over MANNHEIM.
Photographs were attempted.
One aircraft failed to return from Operations.
04.50. 9 aircraft had returned safely to Base.
