On the return trip the Lancaster came under anti aircraft fire, believed to be from the American 184th Gun Battalion in Belgium,
which brought it down.
It crashed at 2010 hrs. in a field on farmland at Emines, 5 miles N of Namen, Belgium.

17 aircraft were detailed to attack VOHWINKEL. (Take off between 1603 hours to 1629 hours).
Two failed to take off due to (1) pipe to rear turret broken (2) radiator shutters, rear turret unserviceable and break pressures.
The remainder reached the target and completed their duty, except one aircraft who failed to return.
Bombing was on G.H. and was fairly well concentrated.
ME.190s, FW.190s and twin engined jet aircraft were sighted. One unidentified aircraft seen but lost through evasive action.
Predicted and accurate heavy Flak from target, and Flak from COLOGNE BONN and SIEGEN active, also front line.
Smoke, fires and bomb bursts seen and in target area, also one large yellow explosion. 15 searchlights round target and 5 north west.
Winds higher than briefed. Bombing was carried out from heights between 19400 and 21000 ft.
2212. 14 Aircraft returned safely to Base (two failed to take off, one missing = 17)
