Lancaster Mk I - HK595 KO-A

T/O Witchford 1240 - target Dortmund, Germany.
Collided with Lancaster NN706 in a mid air collision over Leverkusen.

177 Lancasters of No 3 Group carried out a G-H attack on the oil plant at Dortmund.
The raid, through thick cloud, was believed to have been accurate.

2 Lancasters lost.

ORB. 15th Nov., 1944.
19 aircraft took off (between 12.32 and 12.47 hours) to attack synthetic oil plant at DORTMUND.
2 aircraft failed to return - no news being received. Lancaster MK I NN706 KO-B, 7 KIA
Bombing was carried out by the remainder in 10/10 cloud by special apparatus from heights ranging
between 16,500 feet & 19,500 feet.
It was impossible to access results but bombing appeared to be well concentrated.
Photographs were attempted.
2 aircraft were seen to explode in the air.

17.37. 17 aircraft had returned safely to Base after Operations.

Lancaster NN706 Attached is a letter to 15 MREU stating that both aircraft were shot down by Flak.
