All aircraft successfully located and attacked target. Weather over target area was fair with thin cloud. Bombing heights ranged from 12.500 to 16.000 feet. Bombs were seen to drop in or just outside the target area, and among Flak and searchlight concentration, causing many fires.
A/C. W.R.1502. (Captain P/O. DUFF) observed a very large fire burning 20 miles West of target.
A/C. X.R.9663. (Captain P/O. FOSTER) was attacked by an ME.110 four times sustaining damage to tail plane, rear turret and fixed aerial, and port propellor.
A/C. F.X.9671. (Captain Sgt. WALLACE) had distributor of bombing gear rail, and all his bombs were dropped in one salvo.
A/C. D.R.1063. (Captain Sgt. PRIOR) brought back one 250 lb. G.P. which had been saved for a chance target.

A/C. D.R.1065. (Captain Sgt. PRIOR) bombing from 15.000 feet, dropped his bomb in the target area, and observed the glow of several fires after bombs had dropped. Bursts were seen, but no results observed.

A/C. F.X.9771. (Captain Sgt. WALLACE) bombing from 16.000 feet saw his bombs drop 1 mile East of PRANCHE Worke. A good red fire was observed from 15 to 20 miles. Distributor stuck and all bombs were released at once.

A/C. H.R.1772. (Captain Sgt. MATTHEWS) bombing from 10.000 feet dropped all his bombs among Flak and searchlight defenses. Definite position in town not seen.

A/C. U.X.9672. (Captain Sgt. BERNEY) bombed from 12.500 feet. No results were observed owing to cloud. Flak bombed in river area and estimated target area.

A/C. B.R.1798. (Captain Sgt. REID) bombing from 14.000 feet dropped his bombs about ? mile South East of target. A fire was started which appeared to take hold.

A/C. W.R.1502. (Captain P/O. DUFF) dropped one stick over target area. Incendiary bursts seen, and fires observed for 20 miles. ? was 15.000 feet.

A/C. R.X.9663. (Captain P/O. FOSTER) bombing from 13.000 feet, dropped his bombs in the target area, and observed to fires start. During an attack by an ME.110, the tail plane, rear turret, fixed aerial and green prop were all hit. The enemy A/C. sheared off after attacks.

An ME.110 attacked A/C. F.X.9671. (Captain Sgt. WALLACE), but was successfully engaged and shot down by the Rear Gunner, Sgt. PARSONS.
On the return A/C. W.R.1502. (Captain P/O. DUFF) due to faulty compass and shortage of petrol had to land at CHIVENOR.
A/C. K.R.1500. (Captain Sgt. RAWLINGS) landed at HUNSDEN.

All aircraft successfully located and attacked the target area, and bombing from heights ranging from 12.500 feet to 14.000 feet, and bombs were dropped in target area, causing a large no. of fires, and adding to those already burning.
One stick of bombs were observed to fall among railway buildings and junction causing large fires.
A/C. F.X.9671. (Captain Sgt. WALLACE) was attacked by an enemy aircraft, but was driven off after 8 minutes combat, the only damage being a few holes in the aircraft.
A/C. U.X.9672. (Captain Sgt. BERNEY) was attacked by an enemy fighter and the Rear Gunner Sgt. KERRUISH was killed, and the bombs were jettisoned in the sea, and aircraft returned to Base.
A/C. D.R.1063. (Captain Sgt. MATTHEWS) failed to return to Base after Operations, but a message was received stating that the aircraft was landing in the sea. All attempts at rescure by aircraft and surface vessels was of no avail.

A/C. J.W.5710. (Captain S/L. SINDALL) bombing from 12.500 feet dropped all his bombs in the target area and very large fires were started, 2 of them being very intense.

A/C. B.R.1798. (Captain Sgt. REID) bombing from 14.000 feet, dropped his bombs and started fires among existing fires. Observed a large number of fires in target area.

A/C. F.X.9671. (Captain Sgt. WALLACE) bombing from 14.000 feet, dropped his bombs West to East over target area. Observed two very large fires already burning, one of which was about 3 miles long and a mile wide. Further fires near station were started. Aircraft was attacked by enemy aircraft and sustained some damage to fuselage. E/A. was hit by fire from gunners but no claims made. Later attacked by a J.U. 88 for about 6 minutes, and was finally driven off by attacking.

A/C. H.R.1500. (Captain Sgt. RAWLINGS) bombing from 14.500 feet, dropped his bombs near fires about 1/2 mile West of aiming point. Bombs burst increasing fires.

A/C. Z.X.9675. (Captain Sgt. SMITH) bombing from 14.400 feet, bombs fell on approx. aiming point, increasing existing fires. 40 decent fires seen burning. Flash Bomb failed to explode.

A/C. B.R.1471. (Captain S/L. KNIGHT) bombing from 14.000 feet dropped one stick East to West over centre of town. One flash seen followed by a huge column of white smoke.

A/C. U.X.9672. (Captain Sgt. BERNEY) returned to Base early. Was attacked by an enemy aircraft and the rear gunner, Sgt. KERRUISH killed, bombs were jettisoned in the sea.

A/C. D.R.1063. (Captain Sgt. MATTHEWS) failed to return from Operations.

A/C. Y.W.5449. (Captain P/O. FOSTER) this Operation was cancelled and aircraft did not take off.

Three of the above aircraft successfully located and attacked the target area and bombing from between 12.000 and 14.000 feet, bombs were dropped and seen to burst in or just outside the target area, casing large fires, one of which was visible 25 miles away.
A/C. F.X.9671. (Captain P/O. POOLEY) was unable to locate target and so attacked a built up area, straddling a railway in the town. 54 of his incendiaries failed to drop.
A/C. X.9673. (Captain S/L. SINDALL) engines failed on the return and the captain ordered the Crew to bail out at OXFORD. S/L. SINDALL remained with the aircraft and the engines picked up again and he was able to make a successful landing at BRACKLEY.
The Rear Gunner Sgt. MEATYARD broke his leg after a descent by parachute due to partial failure of the parachute to open.
A/C. F.X.9671. (Captain P/O. POOLEY) landed safely at NORTHOLD.
A/C. V.R.1471. (Captain F/L. LITCHFIELD) landed safely at BRACKLEY.

All made successful descents except Rear Gunner Sgt. MEATYARD (?) who received a broken leg. Captain stayed with aircraft and later made successful landing at BRACKLEY.

A/C. M.R.1772. (Captain Sgt. RAWLINGS) bombing from 12.000 feet, saw his bombs burst and a large fire was started, which was visible for 25 miles. On return journey aircraft was forced to land at BASSINGBOURNE.

A/C. V.R.1471. (Captain F/L. LITCHFIELD) bombing from 14.000 feet, saw all his bombs burst North East of target area. No results were observed owing to haze over target. On the return aircraft landed safely at BRACKLEY.

A/C. F.X.9671. (Captain P/O. POOLEY) bombing from 14.000 feet, dropped his bombs to straddle ?way in town area, a fire was started which burned very brightly. Aircraft was unable to locate OSNABRUCK and so bombed secondary target. On the return aircraft forced landed at NORTHOLD.

All aircraft had landed at English Bases by 0640. hours.

A/C. B.1798. (Captain Sgt. COOK) attacked a convoy of 6 vessels as his primary target EMDEN was enshrouded in cloud. He obtained a near miss between two vessels of 5.000 tons each. The I.F.F. in this aircraft went U/S shortly afterwards probably due to low level attack.

A/C. B.1798. (Captain Sgt. COOK) bombing from 100 feet, attacked a convoy of 6 ships, and all bombs dropped between 2 of 3 vessels, each about 100 yards apart. Nearest bomb fell 20 yards from centre boat. Much machine gun and pom pom fire. Could not identify EMDEN owing to cloud.

A/C. A.1496. (Captain Sgt. PRIOR) returned at 0027. hours owing to Port engine trouble. All bombs were jettisoned in the sea.

All three A/C. were attacked by ME.109's and were successfully engaged, and one ME.109 F, one ME.109 E. were shot down, and another so severely damaged that it was seen to go into a spin, and fall vertically towards the sea with heavy smoke pouring from its engine.

A/C. J.W.5710. (Captain S/L. SINDALL) bombing from 15.200 feet, dropped one stick North East to South West over target. First bomb fell in water about 10 yards from Warship lying alongside mole. Bursts from other bombs seen to burst around other ships about 1/2 mile South West of mole. Aircraft hit by Flak in rear turret hydraulics. One ME.109 F was successfully engaged and shot down in to the sea.

A/C. F.X.9671. (Captain P/O. POOLEY) bombing from 13.500 feet dropped all his bombs in the target area. No results were observed. Aircraft was damaged by Flak, rear turret hydraulics being rendered U/S. Aircraft was attacked by ME.109 which was first hit in the engine, and a second bursts from front turret caused enemy aircraft to fall into a spin and fall vertically with heavy smoke pouring from the engine. Attack took place when under very heavy Flak fire, prior to releasing bombs.

A/C. G.R.5684. (Captain Sgt. PRIOR) bombing from 14.500 feet. Two bombs hit the GNEISENAU and other undershot. Two other aircraft bombed at same time and many bombs were seen to bursts alongside the jetty. One ME.109 F and one ME.109 E were successfully engaged and shot down into the sea. Aircraft sustained damage to petrol tanks and stub wing.

On the return journey A/C. J.W.5710. made a safe landing at Base, and A/C. G.R.5684. landed safely at EXETER and A/C. F.X.9671. landed safely at ST. EVAL after Operations.

All aircraft had returned to English Bases by 1804. hours.
