115 Squadron
1940 - 1945

16/17 November 1940

Wellington Mk IC - R3213 - KO-S

T/O Marham 1858. Target Hamburg, Germany. Crashed at Am Falkenberg-Hamburg.

During the nights of 15/16 and 16/17 November, a total of over 200 aircraft were despatched to Hamburg. (Curiously, in light of subsequent events, these were the second and third consecutive nights that the city had been targeted). One the first night, heavy damage was caused at the Blohm & Voss shipyard and over 60 fires started, but on the next raid, only 60 aircraft were able to find their target. A further 25 found alternatives, but the damage as far less severe.

On this mission 115 Squadron lost also
Wellington Mk Ic P9286 KO-K crashed at Winkel, Netherlands, no survivors,
Wellington Mk Ic T2606 KO-H crashed at Bircham Newton, UK, 1 casualty.
Wellington Mk Ic P9299 flown by P/O Roy crashed at Wittering, Uk, but no injuries to the crew (P9299 moved on 05.12.1940 to Czech OTU and crashed on 6 April 1942)
